Why Choose Local?

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:

The environmental impact of choosing local flowers is vast. Small scale flower farmers tend to use more earth conscious farming practices, including integrated pest management, diverse cropping systems, and low-input fertilization programs. These practices encourage biodiversity, soil health, water conservation, and pollinator populations. The carbon footprint of local flowers is far smaller than that of imported flowers, in that they travel less to get to their final destination, skip the plastic packaging, and do not need chemical preservatives to be transported.

SOCIAL IMPACT:

Sourcing locally supports small businesses and improves the local economy. It is an excellent alternative to supporting the imported flower industry, which tends to provide poor working conditions for their growers via exposure to chemicals and low pay. It also fosters community and connection between growers, designers, and consumers.

HIGHER QUALITY:

Local flowers tend to be harvested within 24-36 hours of the time in which they are used. They are pre processed and ready to design with. Their vase life is longer and more unique, as they maintain a fresher quality, often have a stronger fragrance, and tend to have more unique varietal options to work with.

SEASONAL NARRATIVE:

Local flowers capture and represent a time and place, a season, adding to the narrative of an event. The flowers in bloom during that season are forever linked to that moment in time, that memory
